These are just some aircraft projects where we bring the aircraft back to life. If there are specific projects you wish to discuss with us we would love to hear from you about our next challenge.
Anson full repsray
The Avro Anson was a pleasure and honour to paint for us here at Gloucestershire airport due to the history of the aircraft. G-AHKX was built in 1946 and delivered to Smiths Industries at Staverton where it flew as a test bed for the company, testing their pioneering navigation equipment and instruments. Sold in 1960, it would return temporarily in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s when it operated as a camera ship for Kemps Aerial Surveys.

Furthermore, being asked to paint something that is now located in the Shuttleworth collection was an honour as we would be helping to bring this wonderful plane back to life and sitting beautifully in the museum.
The aircraft arrive in January, 2018 after 72 years since its previous visit, we were very keen to get started on this huge project, the pictures you can see don’t do the plane justice for its sheer size.
From a painting point of view, once Shuttleworth’s team of engineers had stripped the plane down of panels. It was straight forward from our team on what we had to do, there were obvious hurdles to overcome during. The wings are metal so they need to be chemically paint stripped and treated. However, the fuselage wasn’t quite as straight forward. The fuselage is covered with fabric along with the flight controls, so this took most of the team’s time as it all had to be rubbed by hand. Once all of this was done we could begin to paint.
There are some pictures below to show the process of preparation and painting of the aircraft.
Helicoper aircraft projects
Helicopter structure repair
This aircraft project was a multi-stage helicopter repair replacing two failed strengthening EMM patch sections. The first stage strips the affected area back to the metal and attends to any corrosion. Once this has been treated then repair area is cleaned prior to composite repairs. Finally, the area is primed and blended in before being polished.
